Bahamas – your tropical paradise

Bahamas is an archipelago of about 700 islands, of which only 30 are inhabited. Bahamas are situated in the Atlantic Ocean at a distance of about 90 km. east of Florida. This is the most northern islands in the Caribbean. The largest islands are Abakos, Aklinz, Andros, Berry Islands, Biminis Islands, Cat, Eleuthera, Ekzumas, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Long Island, Mayyaguana, Nassau, Paradise Island and San Salvador. An area of about 13,9 thousand square km.
Bahamas attractions and showplaces
This place is one of the richest countries in the region, a symbol of luxury, prestige and success. It is the Caribbean Switzerland, a major offshore center (more than 400 banks),  luxury shopping center with duty free, a market with an abundance of souvenirs, and in the evening it became a big party place with night clubs, bars, cabarets and casinos.
The main thing that everybody likes is the beauty of a luxurious nature(Island Grand Bahama). Submarine hunting and fishing (the island of Andros, Berry, Bimini), diving on coral reefs (Abakos Island, Eleuthera), yachting (Island Ekzumas, Long Island) or the observing of a unique pink flamingos (o.Inagua), exotic iguanas, the opportunity to swim with dolphins, to feed sharks and enjoy the atmosphere of the Caribbean carnival.
History 
The islands was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. One of the islands of the archipelago – Watling Island (San Salvador) – the first ground of the New World, opened on Oct. 12, 1492. Three years later, the first Spanish colonists settled in the archipelago.
It is believed that before discovering of the islands by Europeans there lived up to 40 thousands of people that populated the island during the period from VII to XII century. The Spaniards took out the locals to Hispaniola (Haiti) as slaves, and after 25 years almost all the indigenous population died out, and the Spaniards left the settlement.
Later in 1650 to Bahamas arrived a few settlers, the British Bermuda, which created a settlement on the island of Eleuthera. At the same time Bahamas were occupied by pirates who created on several islands of the archipelago bases for rest and repair of ships. Pirates were expelled from the Bahamas by the British in 1718.
The Bahamas became a British colony in 1718 but remained sparsely populated until the end of XVIII century when there arrived about 8,000 of loyalists, who declared their independence from the United States (New York, Florida and North and South Carolina). After the American War of Independence, the British Loyalists were brought to the island. After three years the population increased in many times.
In 1964, under the new Constitution, the island was granted with internal self-government. in the July 10, 1973 it became independent. First Prime Minister of the Bahamas became Roland Theodore Simonett. Head of State remains the British monarch.
Progressive Liberal Party, supported by the black population, came to power in 1967 and put an end to white domination. July 10, 1973 The Bahamas became an independent state within the British Commonwealth.
Political Structure
Commonwealth of the Bahamas – an independent state within the British Commonwealth. The nominal head of state is the Queen of Great Britain, represented by Governor-General. Legislature is a bicameral parliament consisting of a Senate and House of Assembly. The executive power in the Government is headed by Prime Minister appointed by the party leader.
The climate of the Bahamas
Tropical and subtropical, with a rainy period from May to October. West coast is washed by the warm Gulf Stream, south-east is constantly blowed by soft equatorial wind. Therefore, the typical winter temperatures is +15 C, while in summer it is not above +32 C. At Bahamas the sea is crystal clear, typically of 27 C in summer and about 23 C in winter. Constantly blowing winds make the climate on the islands of smooth and soft throughout the year. The most cold season is from September to May, when the temperature drops to +18-22 C.
